Optimizing the Role of the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih in Encouraging Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth for the Achievement of Village SDGs in Ambon City

This study aims to analyze the potential and strategies for optimizing the role of the Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth and supporting the achievement of Village SDGs in Ambon City. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on secondary data obtained from Statistics Indonesia, the Ambon City Government, the Ministry of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia, the Village Information System, government regulations, and relevant scientific literature. The findings indicate that Ambon City’s economic growth reached 4.87% in 2025, while the Open Unemployment Rate remained relatively high at 11.37%, highlighting the need to strengthen productive economic activities and expand employment opportunities. The 100% establishment of Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives in Maluku provides an opportunity to strengthen the local economy. Optimization should focus on developing businesses based on local potential, digitalization through SIMKOPDES, improved governance, access to financing, partnerships, and broader community participation. These strategies have the potential to support economic growth while contributing to the inclusive and sustainable achievement of Village SDGs.
